Jordan Leavitt ’19

So tell me a bit more about Terracon, and what you do there. 

I do a lot of administrative work, dispatching technicians to the field and lab tests to the lab. I finalize field and lab reports as they come in, and I am in charge of field equipment, including calibration maintenance. Previously, I worked in the Soils and Geotech lab, where I managed the concrete side of the lab. Basically, I would work on breaking concrete and compaction testing.

How have you used your Unity College education in your career? 

I have actually done a lot of the same tests that we did at Unity for my degree, just a lot less fieldwork now. But the lab work is a lot of the same testing and analysis, like sieve analysis, that I performed at Unity.

What advice would you give to a student who is looking to study Earth and Environmental Science at Unity College? 

I would say, because this is from personal experience, do not give up. There were numerous times where I thought about changing my major because it was too hard or too time-consuming, but I think if you balance it right and stick with it, it will be worth it in the long run.
