Credentials

M.S. in Environmental Sciences & Policy, BS in Social Sciences

Brooke McHansen is an Adjunct Instructor at Unity College and a Program Analyst at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). She received a M.S. in Environmental Sciences & Policy with a focus in environmental satellite applications in marine ecological research from the Johns Hopkins University and BS in Social Sciences, with a focus in anthropology from the University of Maryland, Global Campus. During her career with NOAA, she has worked supporting the implementation of policy and regulations governing marine fisheries management in U.S. federal waters, provided congressional analysis and liaison support for NOAA’s environmental satellite programs, and currently, she evaluates and synthesizes environmental satellite scientific data/information to develop and implement plans for supporting NOAA’s mission and services. Brooke’s main research interest is in marine population dynamics, especially in relation to anthropological impacts, and the opportunities and challenges satellite remote sensing provides in the field. On the weekends, she can often be found at her local aquarium volunteering in their jellyfish culture lab, planning her next travel venture, or snuggled by the fire with a good book. Her teaching style, while still evolving, is based on the discussion method with lots of feedback and explanation to encourage the sharing of knowledge amongst everyone and reinforce the learning that has taken place.
