Credentials

Ph.D. in Advertising from The University of Texas at Austin.

As both an educator and strategic communications professional, I bring 20 years of mass communication and advertising education and strategic communications experience to teach writing and rhetoric. I believe strongly in the fundamentals—the craft of writing, storytelling and collaboration.  Communication is an essential skill to a successful career. This directs how I approach teaching students of diverse backgrounds and skill levels.

I completed my Ph.D. in Advertising from The University of Texas at Austin, and Master’s (advertising and public relations) and Bachelor’s (English Literature) from the University of Alabama. My career includes teaching at Lynn University, Florida International University, Loyola University New Orleans, and Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama.

Over the course of my academic career, I have taught numerous students in mass communication, advertising and marketing and advised student groups which have competed in national advertising campaigns competitions.   I have presented academic research for national audiences and have also taught principles of advertising, creative concepts, speech communication on both the undergraduate and graduate level.

My consulting projects include a governmental-based consulting project assisting with an international communications audit for USAID based in Port-au-Prince, Haiti to develop a communications strategy for comprehensive community health programs in 2005, and coordinating a celebration for Caribbean-American Heritage Month in Miami, FL. I also led a study abroad to Berlin, Germany, where I taught students about European advertising and public relations.

My hobbies include college football, gardening, listening to Reggae music and finding bargains online. I enjoy coastal living, good food and attending to my dog, Teddee.
