Ph.D. and M.S. in Nutritional Sciences
Dr. Kerr is a comparative nutritionist that specializes in the nutrition of animals housed at zoos and aquaria. She has worked with a diversity of taxa – vertebrate and invertebrate, aquatic and terrestrial, small and large, domestic and wildlife. Dr. Kerr has a passion for the conservation of wild animals and their habitats. During her career Dr. Kerr has worked at St. Louis Zoo, Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Epcot’s the Seas and Friends, and San Diego Zoo and Safari Park. She received her Ph.D. and M.S. in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Illinois researching raw meat and whole prey diets for domestic and exotic cats. Her favorite clinical nutrition case was assisting with the hand-rearing of an orphaned baby koala. Dr. Kerr hopes to provide students with a deeper understanding of comparative nutrition and how we can apply from one species to another.
