Did you start and finish your degree at Unity College or did you transfer in to Unity? If you transferred in, where from and why?

I transferred from UNH because I preferred the smaller school size and closer knit environment of Unity College.

What was your favorite thing about your time at Unity College? Did you have a favorite tradition?

I loved the whitewater canoe class!

What advice would you give to current Unity College students?

Use your time at college to take a variety of classes and learn as much as you can on a broad range of subjects. While your college degree and area of study is important, your work and life experiences are as important and may lead you in different directions. Also – please apply to work for AMC!

Did you utilize career services for you internship or career search? If so, in what ways?

Yes. I spent quite a bit of time in the career services office looking for internships and jobs. I always attended the career fair. I also used the advisors for help with my resume.

Where did you complete your internship(s) and what types of experiences did you have?

I completed my internship at Appalachian Mountain Club as a trail crew leader. It was my first time working in the field of Adventure Education. It led to several years of seasonal work there and eventually coming back to work in a year-round job.

Is your current job in your field of study, or did you end up going a different direction than you thought?

My current job is in my field of study.

Tell us a little about your current job and what it entails:

As Program Manager for Appalachian Mountain Club, I supervise a staff of Outdoor Guides who lead trips in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. I work with the guides on the training and skills they need to be successful leaders in the field. I plan and implement a schedule of outdoor trips year round for a variety of audiences. I also work on a team that develops risk management policies for our organization.

Are you happy in your current career?

Yes!

Did you feel Unity College prepared you for your career?

Yes.

If you haven’t already, are you considering graduate school down the road?

I’d love to consider graduate school in the future.
