Geology and Our Environment
ESCI101
Description
In this course students will explore how geology influences ecological processes and environmental issues. Students will learn about the influence of geological processes in events that range in scale from mountain building to soil loss, apply knowledge of geologic conditions and processes to understanding the distribution and effects of mining and fossil fuel exploration, and recognize geologic contributions to both natural and human-induced environmental challenges. Students will also discover how that knowledge and understanding can help mitigate negative impacts. Finally, students analyze how resource extraction results in both the benefits and challenges.
