Brittany Sondberg

Baccalaureate Adjunct Faculty

Brittany Sondberg

Credentials

M.F.A. in Sculpture

Brittany Sondberg is an artist based in Greensboro, North Carolina. She specializes in sculpture, printmaking, and darkroom photography. She holds a B.F.A. from East Carolina University in Metal Design (2004) and an M.F.A. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in Sculpture (2015).

Her sculptural work consists of primarily large-scale abstractions in steel, but she also likes to experiment with wood and mixed materials. A majority of her work is intuitively created, both in sculpture and printmaking. Drawing and sculpting go hand in hand as her openly constructed steel forms are very much like line drawings in space. This work contains embedded symbolic form and plays on the abstract experience of perception, self-cognition, and personal record.

In her print work, Brittany seeks to employ similar forms and concepts, but in her photography, the personal record is much more straightforward. Using an artistically founded documentary approach, she is interested in cataloging the every day, capturing the passage of time while creating dynamic, complicated compositions.

Brittany has taught both Digital and Darkroom Photography courses in North Carolina for the past four years. Photography was her first artistic interest as an undergraduate art major before eventually changing course. She remains excited about and active in the medium and has been working towards combining her two and three-dimensional work in a variety of ways.
