Professional Science Masters (P.S.M.) in Zoo, Aquarium, and Animal Shelter Management
Brooke Cabin is an Adjunct Instructor at Unity Environmental University and a Mammal Keeper at The Bronx Zoo. She received a Professional Science Masters (P.S.M.) in Zoo, Aquarium, and Animal Shelter Management from Colorado State University, culminating in a capstone project titled “Establishing a Behavioral and Training Curriculum for Animal Care Volunteers and Interns at Pueblo Zoo.” With a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from Colorado State University, Brooke Cabin combines academic rigor with practical expertise to enrich the lives of animals and learners alike. Before her current roles, Brooke has garnered extensive experience in the field: she has worked with animals as large as Asian elephants and as small as harvest mice, but most of her zoo-keeping career has been with African hoof stock like giraffes and zebras.
Brooke’s passion for research led her to internships at prestigious institutions such as the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington, DC, and the Denver Zoo in Denver, CO. She contributed to projects focused on great cat behavior and elephant care, demonstrating her commitment to advancing knowledge and improving animal welfare.
In addition to her expertise in animal care, Brooke has extensive experience in education and outreach. She has formally taught K through 5 and college students and is a Certified Interpretive Guide from the National Association of Interpretation. She has served as a Mammalogy Graduate Teaching Assistant and an Inclusive Pedagogy Co-Facilitator at Colorado State University.
With her unique blend of experience in animal care, education, research, and outreach, Brooke Cabin is poised to make significant contributions to zoology, conservation, and education. She can’t wait to see how incoming students will create innovative and exciting exhibits.
