Dr. Alvin Acerbo

Alvin Acerbo, Ph.D., is an adjunct Distance instructor. Dr. Acerbo teaches in the Environmental Science and Climate Change program at Unity College, and has previously taught at the flagship campus.

Dr. Acerbo is a researcher scientist and has been working in the fields of geoscience and applied synchrotron radiation physics for the past 11 years. His work focuses on geo-soil-enviro chemistry where he explores basic research and develops cutting-edge imaging and spectroscopy technology to support that research. Dr. Acerbo earned his Ph.D. at Stony Brook University NY, focusing on the bone disease osteoporosis and developed imaging modalities that have since been used to further study this disease. He held a Postdoctoral research position at Cornell University before joining the University of Chicago as a research scientist, working at Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long Island, NY. Dr. Acerbo enjoys mentoring students as they navigate through their undergraduate and graduate studies.

In his free time, Dr. Acerbo likes to tinker with his Raspberry Pi on rainy days and train for his next triathlon on sunny days, while he fantasizes about his next world adventure.
