Jacob Bethem

Dr. Jacob Bethem is a Distance Education adjunct faculty member at Unity College. He received a Ph.D. in Sustainability from Arizona State University, an MBA in Sustainability from Duquesne University, MSM in Operational Excellence and a BA in Philosophy from Saint Vincent College, an MA in Philosophy from the University of Tennessee, and a BS in Biological Sciences from the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg. He has been teaching courses in philosophy, business, and sustainability at the collegiate level since 2009. Besides working in academia, he has worked as a research consultant and in business management for over 10 years. His work includes specialization in the energy, waste, and transportation sectors and often combines quantitative modeling with ethical prescriptions. His interests in sustainability include zero waste, green building, renewable energy, electric vehicles, and valuing all forms of life.

Dr. Bethem’s courses often integrate service learning and active learning projects. He currently teaches Thinking in Systems at the graduate level and Building a Better World: Ethical Decision Making at the undergraduate level at Unity College.
