Ph.D. in Plant and Soil Sciences

Dr. Kathryn Radicke-Vanderburg is a rangeland and forage ecologist in the Texas High Plains and a faculty member at Unity College. She earned a Ph.D. in Plant and Soil Sciences from Texas Tech University, a M.S. in Plant, Soil, and Environmental Sciences, and B.S. in Animal Science from West Texas A&M University. Her current research and teaching positions focus on animal health, environmental health, and sustainable management practices. Her dissertation work focused on water footprints, and maintenance. 

Dr. Vanderburg has future research interests in continuing enteric methane research with regard to carbon dynamics that also focuses on carbon sequestration and soil gas fluxes in relation to soil microbial ecology in the semi-arid high plains. She is currently heavily involved in micro biome and resistome research projects with many collaborative efforts across the United States in relation to the livestock animal industry, animal health, human health, and sustainable agricultural systems. Dr. Vanderburg brings a fresh new outlook on agriculture and the livestock industry to our undergraduate and graduate programs and has experience teaching range ecology, range pasture and ecosystem science, forage and grazing management, watershed management, soil science, soil microbial ecology, ecosystem science and carbon footprint, animal nutrition, and ruminant nutrition courses. She is excited to share her knowledge with her students and believes that providing excellence in teaching will prepare and mold her students into thoughtful citizens who will have the tools to help them navigate through adulthood, creating a fulfilling life, while impacting agriculture and the world.
