Unity Environmental University’s Top 5 2024 New Year’s Resolutions

As Unity Environmental University ushers in the New Year, we reflect on our achievements from the previous year and set our resolutions to continue this momentum of growth and innovation. Our New Year’s resolutions for 2024 are inspired by the successes and lessons of 2023, and they are aimed at furthering our commitment to environmental education, sustainability, and student well-being.

Resolution #1: Embracing our Evolution

In 2023, as part of Project Evolution, we updated our name to become Unity Environmental University. News of the exciting changes we’ve made were featured in news segments around the state and country. You can find some of those stories on our dedicated Project Evolution news page. This change reflects our broader scope and heightened commitment to advancing sustainability leadership through education, commerce, and knowledge generation. In 2024, we aim to further this evolution by incorporating innovative educational strategies and expanding our global impact. This ongoing transformation underscores our dedication to environmental stewardship and sets a vibrant course for our future initiatives.

Resolution #2: Expand and Enhance Access to Environmental Science-Based Education

Building on the success of our online learning pivot, we resolve to further expand and enhance our digital and experiential education programming, making our courses even more accessible and engaging for a global audience. In 2023, after growing to more than 7,500 students, Inside Higher Ed hailed Unity Environmental University an “Uncommon Success Story.”  This coming year, we aim to take our efforts to the next level while committing to keeping tuition flat for a fifth straight year and hopefully beyond. Our goal is to foster a deeper connection with the planet and inspire innovative solutions among our students. Additionally, we plan to collaborate with international educational institutions to broaden our reach and impact, making environmental education a cornerstone of global learning. This initiative is not just about imparting knowledge; it’s about creating a generation of environmentally conscious leaders who are equipped to tackle the challenges of our time. Maybe 2024 will be the year we break the 10,000 student mark!

Resolution #3: Launching New Programs

In 2023 Unity introduced a suite of new programs focused on regenerative hospitality and tourism, as detailed in MaineBiz, which aims to educate students on sustainable practices in these industries. Additionally, the university introduced several other new programs earlier in the year designed to address pressing environmental challenges, reflecting its proactive approach to environmental stewardship and education. In 2024, Unity Environmental University is set to expand its environmental programming, launching new initiatives that further its commitment to sustainability and environmental education.

Resolution #4: Prioritize Student Mental Health

Recognizing the importance of mental well-being, we are committed to expanding our mental health initiatives, providing more resources and support systems to ensure our students thrive both academically and personally. By creating a supportive and informed environment, we aim to nurture not only the intellectual growth of our students but also their mental well-being.

Resolution #5: Lead Innovations in AI for Environmental Science-Based Education

Building on our success at the ‘Teach with AI’ conference and the impactful introduction of ‘Spruce’, our AI chatbot, in 2024 we will be furthering the way we integrate artificial intelligence into our educational framework. Our goal is to create a more dynamic, interactive, and responsive learning environment that adapts to the unique needs of each student. Through this integrated approach, we aim to set a new standard for AI utilization in higher education, particularly in environmental and sustainability studies.

These resolutions embody our dedication to making a positive impact on the planet and our community. In 2023 we graduated more than 700 culturally competent workforce ready students.
