One hundred accepted students and their families visited the Unity College campus April 16 for a New Student Experience event offering interactions with faculty and staff and the chance to participate in live activities pertaining to their majors.
The event offered prospective students the opportunity to finalize their decision and confirm their commitment to Unity College. Dozens of faculty, staff, and current students engaged guests in friendly conversation, answered tough questions, and made visitors from 10 states feel welcome.
“It was evident from the get-go these students had a great day,” said Unity College President Melik Peter Khoury. “Parents and family members engaged our faculty, staff and our alumni while their children – our prospective students — got exposure to the full Unity College experience. It’s a unique event, for a unique school.”
“Prospective students who experienced their majors during this event have an excellent view of why they can expect something different from a Unity College education,” Khoury said. “It’s about becoming part of a long-lasting community dedicated to changing the world for the better.”
“All I saw were smiling faces, excited students, satisfied parents, and hardworking community members,” said Unity College Director of Admission Joe Saltalamachia. “By all measures, our program was a huge success, powered by the dedication and involvement of our students, staff, and faculty.”
Saltalamachia said the event is unique among four-year liberal arts colleges.
“We offer personalized attention to our prospective students, before they even walk through the door,” he said. “As with Instant Admission Day and our other outreach programs for prospectives, we roll out the welcome mat and ask how we can help students reach their goals as environmental leaders — before they enroll.”
Known as America’s Environmental College, Unity College is coming off three straight years of enrollment growth. The incoming 2015-16 class was its largest ever, and applications rose 138% in the last four years, a period which saw Unity invest more than $20 million in new campus infrastructure in support of student success.
