Sarah May is a Distance Education Adjunct Professor at Unity College. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Central Florida and then went on to work as a wildlife biologist for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. In that position, she worked with beach nesting birds, Florida scrub jays, maternal bat colonies, gopher tortoises, and striped newts as well as many other non-game species. She then pursued a graduate degree and received her Master of Science in Biology with a focus on conservation and genetics from the University of Central Florida. For her thesis project, she examined the population genetics of a rare salamander species, the striped newt, which is endemic to north central Florida and southern Georgia. The findings of her genetic analysis are currently being used as data to support and promote federal listing of the striped newt as an endangered species and have been used to guide striped newt captive breeding and relocation efforts.

After completing graduate school, Mrs. May has been teaching college courses ranging from Environmental Science, Introduction to Genetics, to General Biology. Her favorite part of teaching is sharing her passion for science and conservation with her students. She recently relocated to Colorado where she enjoys mountain hikes and exploring new places.
