Prof. Jennifer Collins is an Adjunct Faculty Instructor of Marine Biology at Unity College. Prof. Collins started her career in science at Suffolk County Community College in NY, where she started out as a Biology major, but fell in love with Oceanography. She transferred to Southampton College, Long Island University, where she received her Bachelor’s degree. She continued her studies in Marine Science at Nova Southeastern University in Florida, where received her Master’s degree in Coastal Zone Management.
Prof. Collins has been Adjunct Asst. Professor at Suffolk County Community College since January 2014. There she teaches Introduction to Oceanography, Marine Biology, Biology 101, and Introduction to Geology. Over the years, she developed two goals that she strives to implement in her students. The first one is for her students to have an appreciation for science, as long as they can appreciate a field of science, or an aspect of the science being taught, she has succeeded. The second goal is for her students to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and the ability to utilize them in their everyday lives.
In Prof. Collins’s personal life, she and her husband recently moved from Long Island, NY to South Carolina. They just bought a house in the country and are enjoying their time with their new puppy and embracing southern living. Prof. Collins also enjoys spending time with her niece and nephew, running, cooking/baking with her husband, and reading.
